Megumi Eda

Megumi Eda is a dancer and interdisciplinary artist based in Berlin. Her career began with the Matsuyama Ballet in Tokyo and flourished internationally with the Hamburg Ballet, Dutch National Ballet, and Rambert Dance Company.

In 2004, Megumi moved to New York City as a founding member of Armitage Gone! Dance, where she served as Karole Armitage’s muse and participated in the creation of over a dozen new works. That same year, she received the prestigious Bessie Award for Best Performer of the Year. In 2013, her collaboration with New York-based activist and conceptual artist Yoshiko Chuma introduced her to the city’s vibrant Downtown Art Scene and the world of movement research. This partnership has led to projects that push the boundaries of contemporary performance art and continues to inspire her work today.

After relocating to Berlin in 2019, Megumi embraced her passion for creating original multimedia works that merge dance, theater, and film. Her recent projects include Please Cry (2022) and a collaboration with Butoh dancer Yuko Kaseki on DIVINE (2023). She has expanded her practice to include film editing, production, and choreography, addressing themes such as war trauma, women’s rights, and institutional abuse in the dance world.
