What is it about?
ausland offers residencies for groups of 3 to 5 persons. You will receive rehearsal and production time, a grant of 2000 € per person and artistic and technical support to research and realise your project.

Who can apply?
Groups of dancers, performers, dramaturges, technicians, designers who want to collaboratively create a dance performance. You are welcome to share any context you find relevant for you and your project, but we do not require an impressive portfolio nor your CV. We encourage applications by people whose access to funding, higher education and other resources has been limited due to (multiple) structural discrimination. Your project and how you plan to work together is what we’re interested in. Priority will be given to groups who plan an inclusive project, for example integrating audio description or sign language in their artistic process.  We have a budget for accessibility, which we are prepared to use upon agreement.

For funding reasons, you can only apply if you are registered in Berlin and not currently enrolled at a university. Note: If you have received/will receive another grant from the Berlin Senate in 2025, you can only apply for additional grants up to a maximum of 24.000€ per year.

What topic are you interested in, what is your motivation?
We welcome projects that engage and exchange with the world and their surrounding community in a courageous, informed, consistent and persistent way.  In the application form, we´ll  ask you to describe the topic/s you want to address and why. You are welcome to add relevant context that you find important.

How do you want to realize your project?
Describe how you plan to realize your idea, which practices and techniques you would use and experiment with, who will take on which task, how you envision both the process and the presentation. These can of course change during the residency.

What do you get?
You will receive a one-month grant of €2000 per person. This month is divided into

  • one week of research + preparation
  • one week of development and rehearsal time at ausland
  • an additional week of rehearsal time including public showing/sharing at ausland
  • one week of documentation and evaluation

You will receive from us:

  • technical support and advice
  • support with questions on production matters
  • “outside eye” content/artistic advice
  • support with accessibility contacts and outreach
  • support with photo and video documentation

You find information about the space and our technical equipment here

ausland accessibility
Unfortunately, ausland is not free of barriers. You can find more information about accessibility on our website here

However, we want everyone who wants to work here to be able to do so. So feel free to contact us if you have questions about the accessibility of working at ausland and let us think together how we can find a solution, or let us know what we can do to make it easier for you to work at ausland. We also have a budget for accessibility (e.g. communication assistance, translation into simple language, DGS, audio description)
