All The Rivers Workshop: Listening - Artistically Integrated Audio Description and Aesthetics of Access
In this workshop, choreographers, performers and access dramaturges Carolin Jüngst and Naomi Sanfo invite you to think together about accessibility in theatre and, in particular, to research the topic of artistically integrated audio description. The two share ideas and experiences on the artistic use of audio description and their power-critical approach to it and would like to discuss with the participants the question of how we can prioritise solidarity and care in artistic practice and what it means to think about accessibility. Audio description in dance is the linguistic and vocal description of what happens on stage - the description of bodies, movements and situations. It is the means of access to theatre events for blind or visually impaired audiences. In a mixture of theory and practice, dialogue and laboratory, creative ways of artistic audio description will be tested in order to translate dance and performance into a descriptive language and sounds. Workshop participants can take on different roles in the workshop, including as actors, witnesses, describers or researchers.
