Juna Suleiman
is a Palestinian filmmaker based in Berlin and Palestine. With over two decades of experience, she works in film through directing, casting, editing, and acting. She has worked in close collaboration with filmmakers, visual and performance artists, and scholars, including Ariella Aïsha Azoulay and Elia Suleiman. She was a fellow at Akademie Schloss Solitude, Germany, in 2013.
Juna directed the feature documentary Mussolini’s Sister, which premiered at IDFA and has been screened internationally. She has been deeply involved in the development of Palestinian cinema, particularly through her work as a casting director on numerous feature films, contributing to its establishment as a local production practice. Alongside this, she has developed an ongoing body of work with artist Hagar Ophir, centred on collective practices of recalling histories marked by colonial violence.
Juna’s work remains grounded in everyday life, staying close to lived situations without forcing them into narrative, and drawing attention to what is often overlooked, as contradictions persist and subjects emerge beyond fixed identities.
