Assaf Gidron
is a composer, musician and sound designer.
Based in Brooklyn and originally from Tel Aviv, Assaf studied composition and computer music at Goldsmiths College, London and The Royal Conservatory, The Hague with, among others, Richard Barrett, John Lely, Martijn Padding and Gilius Van Bergeijk, and have had helpful conversations with Christian Wolff, Michael Finnissy, Antoine Beuger and Michael Pisaro.
Assaf composes electronic and instrumental music often devised through fixed processes that explore combinations of harmonic, melodic and temporal materials to convey various gradations of musical affect. His works have been performed in the US, the Netherlands, Germany, Argentina, Serbia and Israel by ensembles and performers such as the SEM Ensemble, Asko Schoenberg ensemble, Slagwerk Den Haag, Ensemble Modelo 62, Ensemble Musica Nova, Teodora Stepancic, Erik Carlson, Dante Boon and others. Together with Craig Shepard, Assaf is co-organizer of the Music for Contemplation concert series in Brooklyn. Together with Teodora Stepancic, Assaf is half of the curator/performer duo Stepancic.Gidron. Assaf is also active as performer and improviser, playing cello, guitar and electronics.
Assaf works as a sound designer and mixing engineer for film, television and online. He maintains a long-lasting collaboration with Berlin/L.A based film production outfit Spektakulativ Pictures.
