Wonderska

WonderSka is an all-female Ska, Reggae, and Dancehall band based in Berlin, Germany, that has been active since 1998. Known for their high-energy performances, they self-describe their style as "tanzbar - antidepressiv" (danceable - antidepressant).

They’ve been around since forever, since more than a decade, and are considered an insider tip for anyone visiting Berlin, and have a large fan base not only in the capital: WonderSka. They’re seven women who bring a unique twist to ska.

In addition to the usual rhythm section of drums, guitar, and bass, they play well-known ska classics and reimagined pop songs with saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and keyboard. Their original songs have become crowd favorites at street festivals and parties.

They don’t let themselves be easily marketed; they don’t want to play just anywhere, but carefully select the venues where they perform. They prefer low-budget events to the mega-festivals to which they’re invited. They’re swimming against the current, so to speak, and in doing so, they shine brighter than many of their well-known male counterparts.

It’s not perfection they’re after, but what they believe makes this music special: fun and a party—that’s what they want to deliver. And they certainly do! The fact that they’re also fantastic musicians—some of whom play in other well-known bands in Berlin—rounds out a successful performance. Anyone who’s seen them live once will definitely come back!
