Haesoo

Haesoo (she-her) is a sound artist and theatre maker based in Berlin and Seoul. She began her artistic career in 2009 when she co-founded the theatre company Cheongnyeondan, and has since continued to experiment and create works centered on sound in the performing arts. Before entering the Master’s program in Sound Studies and Sonic Arts at the Berlin University of the Arts in 2019, she participated in the production of more than 200 performances, gaining extensive experience both in Korea and abroad. In particular, through Cheongnyeondan, she produced and directed experimental works that carried strong social messages, expanding her artistic perspective through collective creation processes. Since 2019, Haesoo has been actively working between Korea and Germany, developing research-based projects in Berlin that go beyond the framework of performing arts. She explores sound not merely as a narrative medium but as a material entity, experimenting with its physicality through feedback, electrical signals, and waveforms. Building on the ‘stage language’ accumulated through performing arts, she combines it with new media technologies, seeking to create experiential spaces and narratives through sound. Her practice focuses on constructing immersive environments that can be perceived with all senses, while merging technology, art, and perception to expand the possibilities of sound. Currently, Haesoo continues to practice international collaboration between Seoul and Berlin, pursuing projects that integrate sound and media technologies while exploring new possibilities for deepening the interaction between art and audiences.
