…legends, street lore, music magazines, cautionary tales and even some art scholars tells us that at the near and far - but always vast - dusk-lit intersections of non-mainstream gender, sexuality/ies and music, dwells and thrives "Kink and Noise".
"Kinky Noise" is a concert and sound-performance series about the playful relation between non-mainstream sexuality, gender and sound experimentation, with emphasis on noise music. Originally started by schoco mune in Amsterdam years ago, we are proud to put together the first Berlin edition.
The exploration of the intersections between noise music and gender/sexuality has a long history, emerging - at least as far as we know - in the 1970s (but probably much before) in and around the industrial subculture, with artists and non-artists exploring bodily autonomy, sensory overload, the use of tension, the challenge of mainstream societal norms, control and structure, and much more. Names like Merzbow, Genesis P-Orridge, Cosey Fanni Tutti etc.
"Kinky Noise" opens the sealed box of ignored sexualities and genders, amplifying the untold territories of our erotic fantasies and desires and how they multiply, mutate or intersect with noise music.
We aim to widen, connect, and create a space where many experiences of sexuality/gender/sound coexist, be (consensually) seen, listened to and discussed.
